DexConf isn’t just another event on the Brazilian tech calendar; it’s a convergence of innovative minds dedicated to diving into the buzzwords and the most relevant discussions for the tech industry.
In 2024, the event spotlighted crucial debates on how user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) are evolving in an increasingly automated and AI-driven landscape.
Since its first edition, DexConf has been the meeting point for designers, developers, and digital strategists from all over Brazil. This year, beyond the intersection of AI and UX, the event delved into discussions about inclusive design, digital accessibility, the application of AI in financial products, and more.
Continue reading this article to discover everything that happened at DexConf 2024 and about the conversations that set trends and move markets.
The Future of Discovery: A Beyond-the-Comfort-Zone Approach
Camila Borja, a UX Research specialist, brought a powerful reflection on the practice of continuous discovery, arguing that we often prioritize the quantity of research over its quality. She challenged the audience to move beyond the controlled environment of scheduled interviews, suggesting more immersive methods like “guerrilla” techniques, where direct user interaction is used to capture genuine insights.
For Larissa Lopes, our Junior Designer who was present at the event, the experience of talking directly to users on the street “was transformative, allowing us to gain a deep understanding of their pains and needs”. For her, “it is through this immersion that we are able to design solutions that really make a difference”.
For Nubank, this approach reinforces the importance of staying close to our customers and understanding, in a deep and empathetic way, how our products fit into their routines. It’s an opportunity to expand our research practices, stepping away from screens and exploring real contexts to design more meaningful solutions.

AI and Personalization
The event also highlighted how AI can be a powerful ally in personalizing experiences, offering more efficient and contextualized support.
DexConf reinforced the importance of exploring generative AI to adapt interactions to each user’s profile and context, integrating it across multiple channels, such as WhatsApp, beyond just the app.
Camila Freitas, Nu’s Designer who attended the event, pointed out that “integrating AI with other contextual devices, beyond the cell phone, is the next step in offering a truly complete experience adapted to users’ needs”.
Inclusion: A Commitment at Every Stage
Another central point of the event was the importance of accessibility in design, discussing how every step of the process needs to be thought out to cater to all audiences. In the words of Stephani Takahashi, Nu’s designer, technology needs to be “an ally in inclusion, improving the quality of life for people with physical limitations and neurodivergents”.
After all, the psychological impact that complex financial flows can have on certain users is relevant, and we must propose solutions to make these journeys more welcoming.
For Daniela Espírito Santo, our intern, the big challenge will be to avoid the racial and social biases that have already been identified in artificial intelligence. For her, it’s important to “ensure that these problems are detected before they reach the end customer”.
Creative Coexistence with AI: Challenges and Opportunities
AI has forever changed the day-to-day of creative teams, bringing efficiency and new possibilities. However, discussions about the limits of this technology are still developing.
AI can indeed optimize processes and offer quick solutions, but it’s essential that teams maintain creative control and critically reassess the generated outcomes.
Striking this balance between technology and human intuition is vital for companies to maintain trust and genuine connections with their clients.
Sustainability and Positive Impact: The Design of the Future
Planet-centric design means discussing how design can be a vector for positive impact when aligned with sustainable practices.
After all, it’s possible to integrate environmental responsibility organically into product development.
What’s Next?
DexConf 2024 was a space to reimagine the future of design and technology. At Nubank, we take these learnings to transform our way of working and innovating, always focusing on our customers and the positive impact we aim to create. This is working at Nu!
