Nubank was born in 2013 with the mission to fight the complexity of the financial market to help our customers regain control of their financial lives. To make this a reality, each Nubanker strives to create their own space with real impacts on our customers’ financial lives, alongside some of the most talented and inspiring people in the world.
Isabela Gonçalves, Lucas Cabrera, and Jacob Ruiz represent our culture and embody our values in their day-to-day work. With their own stories and motivations, they have found a unique environment at Nubank to make the extraordinary happen and build the purple future.
Isabela, Principal Software Engineer (Brazil)
For Isabela Gonçalves, Nubank represents the opportunity to align her interest in technology with the direct impact her work has on people’s lives. Since 2016, when she moved from Salvador to São Paulo, she saw Nubank as a chance to grow professionally and be part of something unique.
Bel, as she is known here, began her journey at Nubank working in the Credit Card Engineering team and quickly stood out in various teams and projects. Her adaptability and learning ability have led her to lead and influence many of the company’s technical developments.
In this context, she highlights that what drives her is “being able to think with the team and build solutions that truly meet our customers’ needs.”
Currently, thanks to the Nu Way of Working, Bel has the flexibility to work between Bahia and São Paulo. She values the different routines and perspectives this flexibility brings to her personal and professional life.
Isabela’s career at Nubank is notable, as she has significantly contributed to transforming our credit card into the “Roxinho” that so many customers love from day one. According to her, “this is the best job of my life.”

Lucas, Senior Staff Software Engineer (Colombia)
Lucas Cabrera lives in Buenos Aires with his partner and their four dogs. His interest in technology began in his teenage years, and over time, he realized he could create amazing things by learning to develop software.
His work experience at Nubank is guided by technical excellence. His goal is to ensure that every detail of the products is flawless, to guarantee less complexity in the financial lives of millions of people.
He moved to Mexico and then to Colombia, where he was one of the first engineers in the expansion to the new country. Lucas points out that at Nubank, “because we want our customers to love us fanatically, things have to be extremely well done. Since every line of code matters, it changes your way of thinking.”
Today, as a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Lucas oversees the technical feasibility of projects and is responsible for planning. Thanks to the Nu Way of Working, our hybrid work model, he continues to live in Argentina and has the opportunity to meet with the team in Colombia every three months.
Another very important point in Lucas’s journey is Nubank’s culture of collaboration: “there is always someone to help you. I haven’t seen this kind of partnership anywhere else. At Nubank, everyone is collaborative, and that is very valuable to me.”
Throughout his experience, he also discovered himself as a team leader and admires the autonomy and responsibility of his team, while developing the full potential of the people who join this journey.
Jacob, Customer Service Manager (Mexico)
Jacob Ruiz defines his life as before and after Nubank. During university, he decided to study economics and dedicate himself to understanding a complex financial market like Mexico’s.
He has been at Nu for five years and believes that one of the strengths of his routine is being connected with a team that shares his values and goals. For Jacob, working in a high-trust environment conducive to professional growth is fundamental:
At Nubank, we don’t just have a customer service team. We have Xpeers, a team responsible for providing memorable experiences and creating meaningful relationships with each of our customers. Their managers, tasked with our mission to be fanatically loved by our customers, are the X-Managers.
Jacob’s journey as an X-Manager is marked by constant learning and the mission to make a difference. For him, challenges are opportunities to grow and positively impact the people around him.
His purpose is clear: to be part of something bigger and create positive changes, motivating himself every day with the vision of a better future.
