Fortino, Staff Software Engineer (Mexico)

Fortino Gutiérrez is driven by solving complex problems and creating innovative solutions. At Nubank, he finds the perfect environment to apply his skills. He believes that technology can transform people’s lives in many ways, and this motivates him to keep advancing.

The opportunity to make an impact is incredible for my career. We are transforming the financial market, changing the lives of all Mexicans, and truly building products designed for everyone.

At Nubank, Fortino is dedicated to risk management. His routine involves combining analytical skills with a deep understanding of market dynamics to anticipate potential challenges and help the organization navigate future obstacles. His goal is to make the financial system in Mexico more inclusive and accessible.

Since his youth, Fortino has been fascinated by technology and finance, leading him to study engineering and specialize in financial technology. Before joining Nubank, he worked at various startups and tech companies. Experiencing the startup world, Fortino saw an opportunity at Nubank to understand the new wave of financial services. According to him, “the traditional banking model is being transformed by technology, and Nubank is at the forefront of this change. I was drawn to the company’s mission to democratize access to financial services and provide an extraordinary customer experience. It was a chance to be part of something unlike anything seen in the market.”

Fortino emphasizes that innovation is in Nubank’s DNA and that this mindset comes from the attitude of challenging the conventional every day. He believes continuous learning is essential, and Nubank’s environment, which values creativity and collaboration, allows him to explore new ideas and turn complex product visions and problem-solving into reality.

With a career full of achievements, Fortino believes that one of the most memorable projects was developing Nubank’s internal risk management system. “We built it from scratch, leveraging advanced analytics and machine learning to predict and mitigate risks,” he says. Another significant project was expanding our services to new markets in Latin America. This involved understanding and adapting to different regulatory environments, which was both challenging and rewarding.

Jorge, Senior Engineering Manager (Colombia)

A Colombian from Bogotá, Jorge Jiménez is a systems engineer passionate about technology and continuous learning. Eighteen years ago, Jorge started his career as a developer and evolved over the years into a software architect and technical sales leader.

Before joining Nubank in 2021 to lead teams focused on customer acquisition and engagement, he worked for tech consultancies.

What inspires Jorge most at Nubank is the inclusive and people-centered culture. He values how the company puts the customer at the center of decisions and uses technology as the essence of everything it creates. Hearing from customers that Nu makes their lives easier is proof of the impact of his work.

What I love most about working here is the way we make customer-focused decisions. We really try to understand each person, each need, to then develop products that meet that need. It’s like putting ourselves in the customer’s shoes to bring very specific solutions.

Jorge sees his role at the company as an opportunity to advance technically and make a difference in people’s lives. He is committed to continuing to innovate and improve Nubank’s services to provide an even better experience for all customers.

Paula, Senior Design Manager (Brazil)

Paula Macedo has lived in São Paulo for 20 years. Born in the interior of the state, she has always been interested in technology and developed her first website at 14.

With a degree in library science, Paula found a natural path to technology through knowledge organization. Her work with information architecture and digital design was essential for her transition to UX Design and Research, where she now excels at Nubank.

Paula values the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment that seeks to change the financial industry through simple and memorable experiences.

I identify with this. If we’re going to think of a challenge, let it be big—that’s what motivates us to come to work. It makes you want to build. And Nubank provides that because we are truly changing the industry.

Her purpose is to use technology to expand access to knowledge and improve people’s lives. Paula believes that any creation can lead to great achievements if applied creatively and intentionally.

How can I use technology to expand access to things and knowledge even further? To this day, I say that my way of seeing the world was greatly changed by information science.

According to Paula, the challenges at Nubank are dynamic and constantly evolving. At each new phase, it is necessary to adapt and find innovative ways to achieve our goals. She also believes that Nubank’s future is incredibly promising, as we continue to innovate and expand our services every day.
