What makes Nubank one of the most sought-after places to work isn’t just the innovation or the solutions that simplify the lives of millions. It’s how those solutions come to life: from real problems and questions posed by people who share a desire to do things differently.

Over the past few weeks, we hit the streets of São Paulo, Mexico City, and Bogotá, inviting people to ask simple questions – ones many have always wondered about. After all, what is it like to work at one of the world’s biggest fintechs? What was the craziest idea that actually became a reality here? What inspires us to get out of bed every day?

Nubankers answered such questions themselves, sharing a glimpse into their daily experiences – the learnings, the challenges, and the impact our work has on millions of customers. Check out a brief recap of this campaign.

Working at Nubank means building solutions with real-life impact

At Nu, solving problems is what gives meaning to each one here. What inspires Ximena Puentes, Product Lead at Nu Mexico, is knowing that beyond developing financial products, we’re helping people gain more control over their lives:

“Solving problems that truly affect people’s everyday lives is what gets me out of bed every day.”

One example is Alô Protegido. Based on a real pain point – an increase in phone call fraud – the Nubank Brazil teams developed a technology that can automatically block suspicious calls. A solution born from a simple question: “How can we better protect our customers?” Today, it helps prevent thousands of scams every day.

“We built a system that blocks those calls before they even reach our customers. That drive to truly improve people’s lives is what keeps us going,” says Marília Rocha, Senior Software Engineer at Nubank Brazil.

Working at Nubank means growing alongside who make things happen

An engineer contributing ideas to a marketing campaign? A designer helping to speed up a product test? At Nubank that happens all the time. Learning is constant. Collaboration is real. And the impact of your work might be greater than you think.

For Mário Souto, Staff Software Engineer at Nubank Brazil, that is one of the coolest parts about working here.

“No matter the problem or what needs to be done—everyone is excited and always trying to do better. If you make a suggestion, it’s heard and considered. And if it’s not, someone will give you a solid reason why.”

In Colombia, María Alejandra Otero from the Business Analytics team has had a similar experience. “When you’re surrounded by top talent, you naturally want to bring out your best self,” she says.

Working at Nubank means breaking barriers to make customers’ lives easier

When a customer pain point arises, the instinct is to solve it – quickly. That’s how Nubank’s accessibility initiatives began. After noticing that visually impaired customers were struggling with facial recognition, the team created a new support process to ensure everyone could access our app.

This pursuit of new solutions also led to the creation of NuBraille – a card adapted with the customer’s name in Braille, allowing blind or low-vision individuals to identify it independently.

It wasn’t easy. The team had to work around technical limitations like limited card space due to the chip and contactless payment antenna. Every detail – from the embossing to the spacing of the Braille letters – was carefully adjusted until a functional, high-quality solution was achieved. In the end, what seemed like a challenge became a part of daily life for many customers.

Carolina Azevedo, Design Manager at Nu Brazil, reflects on the impact:

“Having the customer’s first name and last four card digits in Braille makes a huge difference for our visually impaired customers.”

Working at Nubank means questioning the obvious to do even better

Nothing changes if no one questions it. At Nubank, the impossible is just an idea that has not left the drawing board.

That restless spirit is found throughout the company, as Fernando Flores, Staff Product Ops at Nu Mexico, puts it:

“Nubankers are people hungry to change the status quo. People who want to improve how our customers engage with their finances. If you want to work at Nu, we’re looking for someone who wants to transform the way financial services are done today.”

“At Nu, no challenge is impossible. If we understand it’s going to bring value, we’ll go for it and make it happen,” adds Beca Maia, Engineering Tech Manager at Nubank Brazil.

Working at Nubank means solving problems in ways no one has thought of before

Before we think about innovation, we think about people. At Nubank, every idea starts from a real problem – and takes shape to truly change our customers’ lives.

For María Alejandra Otero Villamizar, Business Analytics at Nu Colombia, given how bureaucratic the financial sector is, there’s always room for innovation.

“We’re always looking for our customers’ evolving needs in the market. Even though we’ve already innovated a lot, there’s always more we can do to simplify people’s lives.”

The drive to deliver the best is always present. “The secret isn’t wanting to innovate. The secret is wanting to solve problems. Because when you truly want to solve problems, innovation comes naturally. Understanding the customer’s pain, identifying what needs improvement—that’s the key part,” summarizes Mário Souto, Staff Software Engineer at Nubank Brazil.

Working at Nubank means transforming the industry and continuing to dream big

Nubank’s history began over a decade ago with an idea that seemed, at the very least, bold: What if a bank could exist inside an app?

Years later, not only did the idea work – it opened doors to expand across borders. Today, Nubank goes beyond financial services, with projects like Nu Viagens and NuCel, while staying focused on what matters most: solving real problems.

Even as one of the largest fintech companies in the world, the feeling among those who work here has not changed.
“It’s always Day 1,” emphasizes Marília Rocha, Senior Software Engineer at Nu Brazil. “We haven’t done even 1% of what we aim to achieve. What drives us is the will to improve our customers’ lives. Each team owns its product and is always pushing for evolution and innovation.”

Working at Nu means making the extraordinary happen
