At Nu, growth is deeply personal. It’s about creating a space where dynamic creativity, flexible work conditions, transparency, and innovation come together to empower people to thrive.

Over the years, we’ve seen countless Nubankers grow alongside the company, shaping not only their careers but also the future of financial services in Latin America and beyond.

Today, we’re sharing the stories of two Nubankers who embody this journey: Juliana Abeid, XPLead, who has been with Nu for 7 years, and Rafael Léda, Lead Software Engineer, who has been here for 8 years. Their experiences highlight how Nu’s values have shaped their paths and fueled their contributions to our mission.

Juliana Abeid: 7 years of building trust and empowering customers

When Juliana Abeid joined Nu seven years ago, the company had just 3 million customers and a single product: the iconic purple credit card. Today, as an XPLead, Juliana reflects on her journey with pride, having witnessed Nu’s evolution into a financial services powerhouse serving over 100 million customers across three countries.

For Juliana, Nu’s culture of trust and autonomy has been a cornerstone of her growth. “From the start, Nu has always trusted in the potential of each person”, she says. This trust empowered her to take ownership of her work, innovate fearlessly, and make decisions that directly impact customers. As a member of the Customer Experience (CX) team, Juliana has always been at the forefront of Nu’s obsessive customer focus. “We’re not a call center; we’re guardians of the customer’s voice”, she explains.

One of her most memorable experiences was advocating for family-focused products, such as additional cards for children and parents.

These features weren’t just about solving problems—they were about becoming a meaningful part of our customers’ lives.

This customer-centric approach, combined with Nu’s dynamic and diverse environment, has pushed Juliana to develop new skills, challenge the status quo, and grow into a leadership role she never imagined for herself.

Juliana also highlights the importance of Nu’s flexible work conditions. “The Nu Way of Working empowers us to thrive both professionally and personally”, she says. “It’s about being treated as adults—we know what we need to deliver, and we’re trusted to do it.” This flexibility has given her the space to pursue a postgraduate degree, focus on her well-being, and continue growing both personally and professionally.

For Juliana, Nu’s transparency has been equally transformative. “We’re encouraged to have open, honest conversations”, she notes. “This creates an environment of trust where everyone’s voice is heard”.

Rafael Léda: 8 years of innovation and ownership

Rafael Léda’s journey at Nu is a testament to the company’s commitment to innovation and career growth. Over the past eight years, Rafael has held six different roles, each one building on the last and contributing to Nu’s rapid evolution.

Starting as a Customer Experience Analyst, Rafael quickly learned the importance of putting customers first. “Talking directly to customers gave me a deep understanding of their needs and pain points”, he recalls. This foundation shaped his approach as he transitioned into roles in cybersecurity, infrastructure engineering, and, ultimately, his current position as Lead Software Engineer.

One of Rafael’s proudest achievements was leading the implementation of Nu’s Identity Access Management (IAM) system. “When I joined the infrastructure team, we didn’t have a centralized system for managing access”, he explains. “Building this solution was critical to scaling our operations and supporting our growing customer base”. This project not only showcased Nu’s innovative spirit but also highlighted Rafael’s ability to take ownership and drive impactful change.

Rafael credits Nu’s dynamic and creative environment for his exponential growth. “The opportunities to explore different roles and take on new challenges have been incredible”, he says.

“Nu empowers us to grow vertically, horizontally, or in entirely new directions”.

Flexibility also played a key role in Rafael’s journey. “It’s about autonomy and being treated like an adult who can manage their own time and responsibilities”.

For Rafael, Nu’s transparency and focus on innovation have been equally inspiring. “We’re constantly encouraged to challenge the status quo and think outside the box”, he says. “This mindset has pushed me to grow not just as an engineer, but as a leader and innovator”.

A culture of growth and impact

Juliana and Rafael’s stories are just two examples of how Nu’s values—dynamic creativity, flexibility, transparency, and innovation—create an environment where people can thrive. At Nu, growth isn’t a linear path; it’s a journey filled with opportunities to learn, innovate, and make a meaningful impact.

As we continue to redefine the financial system, we remain committed to empowering our Nubankers to grow alongside us. Because when our people grow, so do we. And together, we’re building a future where financial services are simpler, fairer, and more accessible for everyone. A purple future!
